About Château Vieux Maillet

Château Vieux Maillet is located on the eastern edge of the Pomerol plateau, near the Saint-Emilion appellation. The first characteristic of this area is the great diversity of its soils. In fact, it mixes gravelly brown soils, clay loams with iron scum and sandy-clay soils on deep gravel. Thus, it gives wines a complexity that requires long age to express themselves. Since 2004, Hervé and Griet Lavale, already owners of the castles of Lussac and Franc Mayne took over the castle. They change the team, enlarge the vineyard, install a new vat where the transport is done by gravity, in order to magnify the area and the appellation.

Wine characteristics

Grapes: 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc
Nose: Red and black ruits, discreet woody, mushroom, truffle and forest aromas
Palate: Full and ripe on the palate, full of black fruit, sweet spices, slight sweetness, ample and long finish with ripe tannins
Robe: Intense garnet with purple hues
Evolution: 10 to 15 year aging potential
